This project was done during my second year at Washington University. The first phase of this project was an analysis of the site, the Loop, which is a cultural district in St. Louis. To study the site we created a site instrument, which was a device that allowed us to experiment with the overall planning of the area. I studied the different types of surfaces on the Loop and noted the lack of green space. The next phase of the project was a light study. We were asked to design a structure that manipulated natural light. I experimented with louvers by changing their orientation to create different patterns with shadows. The final step was to design a farmers market on a site that is currently a parking lot on the Loop. I created a market that also served as a public plaza and green space. For my final design, I refined the louver structure and used it as the primary system that appeared throughout the site.
